GEICO Mobile Review
The GEICO Mobile app is one of the best-known insurance applications on the market. It’s user-friendly and multifunctional, with the ability to customize background features.
The app includes many tools which allow you to manage your insurance needs with ease.
Leo Goodwin, GEICO's founder, started the company in 1936 targeting military personnel government employees providing a wide range of insurance products including automobile, renters, life, homeowners, boat, commercial auto insurance, motorcycle, and business insurance among others.
Now, the GEICO company is the third largest auto insurer in the US, and it is no longer only accessible to military personnel and government employees, but also to the general public. However, the company still provides substantial savings on insurance and discounts to members of the armed services and government employees.
GEICO Mobile is robust enough to be a solid replacement for the GEICO website. There is nothing you can do on the full website that is unattainable on the app.
The features available on the GEICO app include:
- View claims status;
- Update claims information;
- Get a new quote;
- Pay your premium bill;
- Display mobile ID cards;
- View the discounts you qualify for;
- Check your insurance coverage limits;
- Call for roadside assistance;
- Change personal information.
GEICO also offers an interactive accident guide which helps you obtain accident contact information, take photos right at the scene of the accident, record your location and accident details, and start the claims reporting process. Once you have your claim submitted, you can view details of it and update any appointments for repairs or appraisals.
GEICO mobile insurance application also allows you to watch GEICO commercials, find your next automobile using GEICO's car buying service, and use GEICO privileges to save money from your favorite retailers.
When you first open the app, you might be surprised to find that the design is a little clunky. And the cards, the wallet graphics, and icons feel a bit dated.
So, the overall look and feel could be updated to enhance the usability, and it would be like adding a cherry to the top of your sundae. You might not need it that much, but the sundae won’t feel complete without it.
The GEICO app is highly usable, and that’s where it scores the most points. You can move through the initial information steps quickly, and the main menu has an easily navigable series of icons related to certain functions. Again, the app’s design could use an upgrade, but the user experience is still solid.
The end-to-end claims experience within the app is excellent too. In case you are in a situation where you don’t have the internet connection but need your insurance card, the app saves it right on your device, so it’s available offline. Plus, there is also 24/7 technical support assistance available to resolve all your emerging issues.
The GEICO policy holders will find it handy to manage their policies online with the features like bill pay, viewing vehicle information, viewing payment schedules, finding the nearest gas, taxi or rental services; the ability to view scheduled appointments or change an appointment and view claims contact information. Besides, you can view, print, email or save your ID cards.
However, the features like “Find Parking” and “Find Gas” seem unnecessary to have. When a user on their phone, then Google maps will do things like this better. These features don’t get in the way, but still feel extraneous.
The transition animations are quite odd here. Items fall onto the screen, and it doesn’t make any visual sense. And another downside is that starting a new claim takes you to the mobile website instead of allowing you to stay in-app.
Cross-platform use 5/5
GEICO Mobile is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. The Android version required is 4.03 and up, and Apple users will need iOS 8.0 or later.
The GEICO Mobile app is free to download; however, you have to be a GEICO policy holder to use all the services available within the app.
Overall, the GEICO app’s greatest strength is its efficiency as it takes you to the most important features quickly. The design could be improved, but usability matters more than style when you are on the side of the road after an accident.
The app was developed to take the place of the GEICO website, and nearly every option you would possibly use is included. For all intents, you can manage your entire insurance portfolio, update account information, make claims all from your phone or tablet.
GEICO Mobile is an efficient and easy-to-use app that lets you manage your auto insurance easily and on the move.
Pros : Easy to use;
Offers quotes for new policies;
Allows changes to policies;
Digital ID Cards right on your phone.
Cons : Clunky design;

Cross-platform use 5.0
