Do you know the simplest and fastest way to share big files? Through emails? By cloud services? Don't know any? So here is an answer and an excellent solution! WeTransfer is the best choice to transfer big files online. This app is extremely simple in use and keeps lots of your free time.

It was created by a startup team from Amsterdam and launched in the year of 2009, and has shortly become the most popular service for quick file sharing. This app has more than 70 million files being transferred each month.

Functionality 5/5

WeTransfer is a painless method to transfer any large files quickly even without being subscribed to this service. A free version allows you to deliver a single file up to 2GB via email or as a file link. But, it doesn’t let an individual account creating on the website. But it lets users monitor their file transfers. You can get such information via the WeTransfer's emails which they will send to you.

WeTransfer is available to everybody. So in the case you’re sending a file in 5GB to anyone, he/she can open this link without having any troubles and download it. Moreover, each delivered file can remain on the servers of the company one week only. Then nobody can access it.

Most services for file transferring offer you an option of sending the desired files as a link that offers downloading, but it is usually public so that everybody can access it without even joining a service. That’s a convenient feature if you're looking to send some not important photos to your friends for example, but what to do in the case when you need to transfer some private files? Thankfully, WeTransfer has a password protection, so all your files will be encrypted.

Moreover, there is a feature that lets you and other users comment any files. You can use WeTransfer as a long-term online storage.

Design 4.5/5

WeTransfer has a straightforward, beautiful and sleek interface with nice background images and in overall is made in a minimalistic style. Therefore transferring files doesn’t cause any questions and is incredibly easy.

WeTransfer doesn’t request from you to file up anything, so you simply open the home-screen and forward a file. From the right side on the home-screen, you'll notice an option for adding files. Your next step should be typing in an email address of the recipient, your own email address, and any message as you wish.

Whenever the file is ready and uploaded, you're able to send it easily. Don’t skip choosing the way other users will get this file. There are two options: email or a link for downloading. In these both cases, users will get to the special recipient page of WeTransfer with a big “Download” button. So they will need just to click on it and save the file, nothing else.

Usability 5/5

WeTransfer allows you to monitor all actions happening with downloaded files by emails that you get from the service. So each time when you're sending a file, you will receive an email that confirms that your file has been already sent, and another one you get when the recipient clicks on a downloading link and not at the moment when the downloading is fully completed.

You can pick another sending option with a link for downloading if you don’t want anyone getting a file in the email. So the user gets a regular notification that he has a file to be downloaded in the service and needs to go there to download it. Even if you choose the option of sending files via email, the recipients will also get a link but inside that email.

Also, in a case when you're sending a link, you can’t control who else can see or download the file, because it will be opened to everybody who has that link. Therefore, it can be lost or stolen easily. You should think about the password protection of all the important files. However, this option available only with the paid version.

A free version of WeTransfer has lots of nice features and can satisfy all your transferring needs. You can share with it as many files as you want just uploading each file individually. There is also no intrusive ads in a free version so that you won’t be annoyed by anything. However, all of these can be not enough for somebody and might leave you wanting more.

Cross-platform use 4.5/5

WeTransfer mobile app is available for users of iOS and Android platforms, and it also comes with native Mac. This app has the simplest interface and makes you experience another level of service as in free version as well as in a paid one. You just need to pick the desired files, add emails and let it do its work. The app also gives an additional option of linking your account to a smartphone or tablet, and the Android users can manage the Share icon for file transferring from one app to another one of their choices.

Only keep in mind that WeTransfer allows you transferring lots of pictures and videos only through the mobile apps no matter of what platform you’re a consumer.

In-app purchases

WeTransfer gives a 2GB limit for personal users and the ability to remain a sent file within a week on the servers of the WeTransfer company to get that file shared. But in case if you're looking for more you can purchase a premium subscription to the WeTransfer service, which costs $12 per month or $120 annually and gives you up to 20GB of file sharing. It also lets you adjust a custom time for a file’s remotion and turn on a password protection for each transferred file. Moreover, you can store online up to 100GB of data and create personal accounts on the WeTransfer website and see the history of all previously sent files.

Conclusion

WeTransfer is an amazingly useful app that makes any photos and videos transferring from one mobile device to another an effortless process. It has two versions to offer (free and a premium one), and both of them have a beautiful and straightforward interface with intuitive controls and will be understandable to any user. A set of smart features will make your transferring process enjoyable, so using WeTransfer you don’t need to stress out anymore about large files transportation.
